Honda Motors, Japanese carmaker, is planning to double its production capacity in India.
In this regard, the company is looking forward to setting up a new plant at Tapukara in Alwar district of Rajasthan to build a new assembly line for cars, a diesel engine component production line, and a forging unit. With this new plant, the production capacity of the company is expected to be augmented to 2,40,000 units in 2014. The project will entail an investment of Rs 2,500 crore.
Besides the Brio hatchback and Amaze compact sedan, the new plant is expected to produce the Mobilio MPV, and a compact SUV.
The Tapukara plant is expected to start rolling out cars in February 2014, and will be based on the company's lean manufacturing platform strategy of sharing different models from a common platform.
