Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) is planning to invite fresh bids for construction of a fourth container terminal at Jawaharlal Nehru Port at Nhava Sheva in Raigarh district of Maharashtra.
The container can handle more than seven vessels at a time and is expected to be a revenue churner. It will have capacity of 4.8 million tonne and a berth of two km in length. The project was delayed by more than three years after a consortium of Port of Singapore and ABG Ports backed out citing various reasons which included ABG's decision to move out of the project. This resulted in the port being forced to invite fresh bids for the venture.
The project is estimated to cost Rs 9,000 crore.
