Michelin India Tamil Nadu Tyres, the French tyre-maker, is likely to commission its tyre manufacturing unit fully at Thervoy Kandigai, near Chennai, Tamil Nadu by April 2014.
The project, worth Rs 4,000 crore, has stabilised and four of the six tyre-assembling lines are in operation. The plant produces about 250 truck and bus radial tyres daily. Two more lines will start soon. The project is spread over 300 acre.
Currently, production at the unit is about one-third of the full annual capacity of about 3,00,000 radial tyres for commercial vehicles.
For now, the company has stacked tyres in a warehouse ahead of the launch. The output will be ramped up in stages to full capacity during the year.
