Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar (VAG) corridor is likely to get the safety nod by February, as the Mumbai Metropolitan region development Authority (MMRDA) is looking forward to seeking approval from the railway safety authority.
The Research, Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) is expected to commence oscillation trials on the 11.4 km stretch of Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar (VAG) corridor in days to come.
Though the railway board has given verbal assurance for the project, the official announcement is likely to be declared only in few days. MMRDA is expecting to approach the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) by February to get the safety approval which is necessary before commencing operations on the Metro corridor.
The oscillation trials by RDSO will include study of train behaviour like acceleration and deceleration, suspension, emergency brake distance and track parameters, and adherence to safety and technical specifications.
The Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar corridor project has been undertaken by Mumbai Metro One (MMOPL). The Metro project will be developed in various phases. Phase-I of the project, i.e. Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar elevated corridor has been developed at a cost of Rs 2,400 crore.
