Air India is looking for a joint venture partner for its proposed landing gears MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) facility coming up at Nagpur aviation hub in Maharashtra.
The state-run airline is scouting for an investment partner, who can bring in around $60 million, as well as provide technical expertise to develop the MRO facility.
The facility will be run by the airlines' engineering arm, Air India Engineering Services, and will cater to the Airbus and Boeing fleet. Air India Engineering Services had recently invited expressions of interest from prospective parties, which will be followed by floating of bids.
At present, there is no MRO facility to fully overhaul the repairing of landing gears in the country, whereas there are about 400 aircraft of different models of Airbus and Boeing in operation, forcing airlines to get their work done in Singapore, Dubai or even in Colombo. This provides an enormous business potential for such an MRO facility.
