On 31 January 2014, N Kiran Kumar Reddy, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, inaugurated the water-based paint manufacturing unit of Berger Paints India at Hindupur in Anantapur district.
The project, with a capacity of 3.20 lakh kilo ltr per year, has been set up with an investment of Rs 370 crore. The project is spread over 60 acre and has been set up in three phases. Phase-I involves a capacity of 0 to 80,000 kilo ltr per year; Phase-II comprises a capacity of 80,000 to 1,60,000 kilo ltr per year; and Phase-III consists of 1,60,000 to 3,20,000 kilo ltr per year capacity.
In September 2013, the project was delayed due to an ongoing agitation over the formation of a separate state of Telangana.
