BHEL has commissioned the construction work of a transmission substation in Raichur, Karnataka.
The project, at the southern end of the Raichur-Solapur transmission link of PowerGrid Corporation of India (PGCIL), had been commissioned five months ahead of a May 2014 deadline, at a cost of Rs 815 crore.
BHEL's work on the project includes design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of the substation. In March 2012, the company had secured the order for the above work from the PGCIL.
With the commissioning of construction work on 1 January 2013, the southern grid has been linked with the national grid. Further, the project will allow electricity to be carried to the southern region from other parts of the country during peak demand as well as to transfer surplus power from the south during off-peak hours.
