BHEL will soon set up a solar wafer manufacturing plant at Sakoli, in Bhandara district of Maharashtra.
In order to set up this manufacturing facility, the company has already taken the board's approval and is also looking forward to a viability gap funding support from the clean energy fund.
The company is planning to invest Rs 3,000 crore to set up the solar wafer plant, which already has a facility to produce photovoltaic cells, modules and solar panels.
To manufacture solar chips, the company will use indigenous technology to make the wafers, cut from crystalline silicon ingots, which will in turn help to reduce the cost of photovoltaic cells, giving a boost to the clean energy segment.
Apart from this, BHEL is looking forward to developing a hybrid system that integrates wind, solar and biomass-based power generation.
