The new domestic terminal at Biju Patnaik Airport, Bhubaneswar in Orissa has formally started operations with the landing of an Air India flight from New Delhi.
Ajit Singh, Civil Aviation Minister on 5 March 2013 inaugurated state-of-the-art terminal built at a cost of Rs 145 crore. The terminal, built by Airports Authority of India (AAI) has a total built-up area of around 200,000 sq ft, 16 check-in counters and parking space to accommodate nine aircrafts.
AAI also intends to construct new technical-cum-control tower, extension of runway from the existing 9,000 feet to 10,500 feet in the second phase.
