The Central Government has given in-principle approval to four-laning of 370-km stretch of Mumbai-Goa highway from Indapur to Zarap.
The Central Government has approved the modernization project from two to four lanes to eliminate head-on collisions. The project being implemented by NHAI envisages four laning of Indapur - Zarap section from 84 km to 454 km of NH-17 in Maharashtra on BOT (Toll) basis under DBFOT pattern. NHAI is expecting to commence work on the project by 2015, because of factors like clearances from various state agencies, land acquisition and tendering process. The project is expected to be commissioned by 2019 as it involves long-drawn tasks such as digging tunnels through ghats, widening bridges and eliminating hairpin bends.
