The Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR) in Gujarat, has received environmental clearance from the Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF), on 19 September, 2014.
The Dholera SIR is being implemented by the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (DMICDC) with Gujarat Infrastructure Development Board (GIDB) as the nodal agency. It is located in Ahmedabad district and comprises an area of 920 sq km spread across 22 villages.
The EC was granted based on the recommendations made by the Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) at its meeting held from 30 July, 2014 to 1 August, 2014.
The EAC has made it clear that each industrial unit coming up in the DSIR has to seek separate environmental clearance individually after conducting the cumulative environmental impact assessments of the entire industrial area. The committee, however, did not propose to recommend the project for CRZ clearance because it has not yet received any recommendation from the Gujarat Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA).
The DSIR project will be developed in three phases of 10 years each and will have clusters comprising electronics, high-tech and emerging technologies, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, heavy engineering, automobile and auto ancillary industries etc.
