Dighi Port is planning to invest Rs 1,000 crore to add more capacity to its upcoming greenfield port in Raigad district of Maharashtra.
The Dighi port is being implemented in two phases. Phase-I of the project includes development of five berths for bulk / brak-bulk / container cargo, dedicated coal, liquid / gas cargo jetty to handle large capacity vessels and rail connectivity. The company has already commissioned two of the five berths. The remaining three berths of the port will be operational by December 2014, and the total capacity will go up to 30 million tonne from the existing 10 million tonne.
Phase-I of the project is estimated to cost Rs 2,500 crore. Of the total amount, the company has already invested Rs 1,500 crore in the project.
Meanwhile, plans are afoot to develop a new berth in Phase-II to handle a fully loaded 6,500 TEU (twenty foot equivalent unit) mainline container vessel with an investment of Rs 1,150 crore.
