Doosan is in the race to bag the contract for supply of power equipment to NTPC’s 1,320 MW Katwa project in West Bengal. It has emerged as the lowest bidder in the finance.
The company has managed to beat Larsen & Toubro narrowly and construction is expected to begin in the next six months. This project will be completed within four to five years. In addition, there were five more contenders for this contract, including BHEL.
The total cost of this project is about Rs 8,000 crore, which includes land acquisition and civil construction costs.
At present, NTPC holds 550 acre for the project and it further requires an additional 246 acre, of which 150 acre will be acquired directly from the villagers. The remaining 96 acre will be provided by the state government.
NTPC will revise the project capacity by another 660 MW to 1,980 MW, if the land acquisition is successful.
