The foundation stone for the terminal building of the Kannur International Airport (KIAL) is expected to be laid on 5 July, 2014.
The bidding process for the same is in the final stage and three companies have been shortlisted. The financial bids will be opened on 21 June, 2014. The shortlisted companies are: ITD Cementation Indian; Larsen & Toubro; and Shaporji Pallonji & Co.
Further, land acquisition for the airport is in the final stage. Of the total 234 lakh cu mtr of cutting and filling, 20.88 lakh has already been completed and work is progressing at a rate of 70,000 cu mtr per day.
The project will be developed in various phases. In Phase-I, the runway will be 3,050 mtr long, while in Phase-II the length will be extended to 3,400 mtr.
The state government’s share has been increased from the earlier 26 per cent to 35 per cent.
