The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has accorded administrative approval for the development of two projects in the state.
These two projects will generate a total of 60 MW electricity. Of this, 36 MW will be generated from gas units at Brahmapuram and 24 MW will be generated from the project at Bhoothathankettu.
The two defunct diesel units at Brahmapuram diesel power plant will be replaced with gas engines, each of which will have a potential of 18 MW. The project will entail an investment of Rs 144.80 crore. Initially, LNG will be imported for use at Brahmapuram and the domestic supplies of LNG are expected soon.
For the Bhoothathankettu small scale hydro power project, KSEB has appointed Saravana Engineering Bhavani - RPP Infra to carry out power house construction work. The project will require an investment of Rs 86.81 crore. These agencies have been appointed with the work at 18.09 per cent less that the estimated expenditure.
Meanwhile, KSEB has also planned to enhance the power of the 13 km long 66 kV single circuit power line from Puthukad to Kattu. It will be increased to a 110 kV double circuit line. With that, two feeder bays will be set up at Puthukad substation and for that the state government has given an administrative sanction of Rs 11.2 crore.
