Prithviraj Chavan, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, has inaugurated two much awaited road projects in Mumbai, i.e. the south-bound side of the Kherwadi flyover and Phase-III of the Eastern Freeway stretching from Panjarpol to Ghatkopar.
Both, the Kherwadi Flyover and Eastern Freeway projects, undertaken by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) were inaugurated on 16 June, 2014.
The 580 mtr long, Kherwadi Flyover on Western Express Highway, has been constructed at a cost of Rs 22 crore. After completion of the south bound side of the flyover, MMRDA is looking to undertake work on the north bound side of the flyover, post monsoons.
Along with the flyover, Phase-III of the Eastern Freeway was inaugurated. Phase-III of the project involved development of the 2.8 km elevated freeway stretching from Panjarpol to Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link road.
Though the project has been inaugurated, a portion of the 2.8 km road is yet to be completed at the northern end. The total length of the Eastern Freeway is 16.8 km and has been developed at a cost of Rs 1,265 crore. The Eastern Freeway has been developed in three phases.
