Lava International is keen to set up its own handset manufacturing unit in North India. The total investment is around Rs 500 crore and will be done in a phase-wise manner.
The Rs 3,000 crore Noida-based company is in talks with three state governments to acquire the land for the handset manufacturing unit. It will take care of the assembly line operations and other backward integration processes.
The proposed unit will have a monthly capacity of five million units. It can be scaled up to 10 million a month in the later stages.
Lava is planning to start assembly work in its existing unit at Noida as part of its local manufacturing plan. This will require investment of around Rs 70-80 crore and will have a capacity of one-two lakh units a month.
