Maharashtra is set to get its first Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Nagpur, as it got clearance from the HRD Ministry.
Out of the six institutes that were proposed, only Nagpur got the clearance. Other institutes proposed in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Bihar, and Odisha are yet to finalize location. The Finance Ministry had sanctioned Rs 500 crore for setting up these institutions.
The Nagpur institute was allocated 293 acre of land belonging to the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) at Mouza Dahegaon in non-SEZ area of Mihan for permanent campus.
The IIM will start operating from 2015-16 academic session. The institute will be mentored by IIM-Ahmedabad.
