Maharashtra Housing & Area Development Authority (MHADA) is likely to restore Kala Killa under the ‘adopt a monument’ scheme to develop the second building of the Dharavi redevelopment project.
Work on the second building at Sector-5 has stopped as the Kala Killa stands within 100 mtr of the site. The authority has submitted a proposal to the state archaeological department; it has offered to restore the fort. In return, the archaeological department has given its in-principle approval to start work on the building.
Once the restoration work of the fort gets commissioned MHADA will start construction work of the second building.
The slum redevelopment project at Dharavi is being undertaken by the Slum Rehabilitation Authority, at an investment of Rs 15,000 crore.
