Maharashtra Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, on Friday, decided to extend the Mumbai Metro-II project between Mankhurd and Charkop via Bandra to Dahisar.
In his first ever review of Mumbai projects, the CM asked infrastructure and transport agencies to chalk out a time-bound implementation programme.
He also announced that the 22 km trans-harbour link between Sewri and Nhava will be built on a cash contract basis.
It was also decided to conduct a fresh comprehensive study on traffic projections for the proposed coastal road as well as water transport projects on Mumbai's west coast.
The Navi Mumbai airport and Mumbai Metro-III project are also on top of his agenda.
The coastal road project between Nariman Point and Malad-Kandivli Link Road is currently stuck with the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF). The state has requested the ministry to amend the coastal regulation zone law to facilitate reclamation of small stretches. The Rs 12,000 crore coastal road project is 35 km long and involves 10.40 km tunnels, 1.9 km bridges, 2.5 km of road on stilts, 1.3 km elevated road, 9 km stretch over mangroves and 9.5 km on the reclaimed land.
Similarly, a 50 km coastal water transport project between Nariman Point and Borivli with passenger terminals at Bandra, Juhu, Versova and Marve will be planned based on the traffic projection study. On the eastern waterfront, the government has accepted the study by IIT-Bombay to create water transport between Ferry Wharf and Nerul-Mandwa that will cost around Rs 568 crore.
