The Pimpri Chinchwad New Township Development Authority (PCNTDA) has put forward a proposal to start construction of 792 low-cost affordable houses in Walhekarwadi, Chinchwad, this year.
The draft budget with a total outlay of Rs 436.1 crore has been approved by the PCNTDA committee. The committee will have a surplus of Rs 1.92 crore.
The committee proposes two phases for construction of the houses. The authority wants to construct 250 houses but as per the norms, has permission to construct 150 houses per ha.
A provision of Rs 60 crore has been set aside in the 2015-16 draft budget for housing projects, of which, Rs 40 crore is for the Walhekarwadi project and the remaining Rs 20 crore is for housing projects on other plots.
The housing project has been delayed by two years. The authority had proposed to construct houses on a 4.5 ha plot in Walhekarwadi consisting of 1,164 low cost apartments. Now, the number of flats have been reduced to 792. The flats will be of two sizes - 280 sq ft and 390 sq ft.
The project has still not received environmental clearance.
