Chennai Metro Rail (CMRL) will soon seek funding from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for Phase-II of the Chennai Metro project.
CMRL will request financial assistance once the Chennai government gives final approval for the alignment of three corridors of Phase-II.
The Chennai Metro Phase-II project involves setting up of a 76 km long corridor, which will be set up in three corridors. The three corridors are Madhavaram - Light House (17 km), Koyambedu - Injambakkam (27 km) and Madhavaram - Perumbakkam (32 km).
The cost of Phase-II of the project is Rs 36,000 crore.
For Phase-I of the Chennai Metro, JICA funded about 59 per cent of the project; the Centre funded 20 per cent, while the balance amount was contributed by the state government. The total cost of Phase-I of the project is Rs 14,600 crore.
