On 30 May, 2013, Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission, and N Kiran Kumar Reddy, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, finalised the annual plan at Rs 53,000 crore for the year 2013-14, for the state.
As per the proposed plan, the state government is aiming to promote public private partnership in the development of both, social and physical infrastructure.
The 11th plan outlay was approved at Rs 1,87,797 crore, of which it has achieved Rs 1,61,756 crore, i.e. 86 per cent of the approved outlay. The 12th Five Year Plan of the state has a target plan outlay of Rs 3,42,842 crore, of which Rs 48,935 crore has been approved for 2012-13.
The state requested the Commission to clear the two large irrigation projects -- Polavaram and Pranahitha-Chevella.
The Polavaram irrigation project being developed by the government of Andhra Pradesh is estimated to cost Rs 17,300 crore. The project will provide irrigation facilities to an extent of 7.20 lakh acre in Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, West Godavari and Krishna districts.
The Pranahita-Chevella Lift Irrigation Scheme project being developed by the state government is estimated to cost Rs 40,300 crore. The project involves setting up the Dr B R Ambedkar Pranahitha - Chevella Sujala Sravanthi Lift Irrigation - at Bejjur Mandal in Adilabad district of Andhra Pradesh.
