The major irrigation project of Pranahita-Chevella in Andhra Pradesh has received six out of eighteen mandatory clearances by the Centre.
All these clearances secured from Central Water Commission, relate to issues of hydrology, inter-state Soil & Material Research Station (a wing of CWC), Central Groundwater Board, Construction Machinery and Consultancy, and Agriculture Ministry.
The Pranahita-Chevella Lift Irrigation project is being promoted by the Government of Andhra Pradesh with a total investment of Rs 40,300 crore. The project's canal, envisaged with a length of 1,055 km, will have tunnels at several places cumulatively measuring 209 km.
Four more clearances including tribal welfare, irrigation plan, project cost and forest displacement is expected to be received soon.
