The government of Tamil Nadu has sanctioned Rs 200 crore for implementation of the elevated monorail mass rapid transit system (MMRTS) project in Chennai.
The allocation of funds is part of the state's 2014-15 budget that was unveiled by O Panneerselvam, Finance Minister of the state, on 13 February, 2014.
The project, estimated to cost Rs 3,235 crore, is being developed by Metropolitan Transport Corporation (Chennai) on DBFOT basis. The estimated length of the project is 20.68 km.
Recently, the company invited RfQs to bring out a detailed scope of work, eligibility criteria, feasibility report, ridership estimation report, Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) bus passenger data, and others.
The project will include Poonamallee to Kathipara with a link from Porur to Vadaplani, along Arcot road.
