Tata Steel and Nippon Steel Corporation & Sumitomo Metal Corporation (NSSMC) joint venture, Jamshedpur Continuous Annealing and Processing Company (JCAPCPL), inaugurated an advanced auto steel facility yesterday.
The facility in Jamshedpur was jointly inaugurated by Tata Sons chairman, Cyrus P Mistry, and NSSMC chairman, Shoji Muneoka.
The auto steel project was set up with an investment of Rs 2,750 crore. The unit will produce 6,00,000 tonne per annum of cold rolled sheets exclusively for the automotive industry, including outer panels and high tensile sheets.
Tata Steel has developed the infrastructure for the project while NSSMC has provided the equipment and technology.
The new facility is India's first Continuous Annealing & Processing Line (CAPL) for manufacturing 'Automotive Grade Continuous Annealed Products'.
JCAPCPL, a 51:49 joint venture between Tata Steel and NSSMC, was formed in 2012 for producing high-end cold rolled coils and sheets for the Indian automotive market.
