West Bengal Finance Department has cleared funds to the Irrigation department to execute a total of 136 irrigation schemes in all the 18 districts of the state including Kolkata.
The department has cleared Rs 555.67 crore for the irrigation schemes across the state. Work order for all the projects will be issued soon. The department is already implementing ongoing projects pegged at Rs 1,579.38 crore, which means combining the new approved schemes, the total amount of Irrigation work will be of Rs 2135.05 crore.
While East Midnapore has been allocated Rs 140.39 crore for 15 Irrigation schemes, South 24-Parganas got Rs 115.91 crore to execute eight projects. Coochbehar has the most number of Irrigation schemes to be executed with an estimate of Rs 26.51 crore.
Out of the 136 schemes, Rs 22.15 crore Mahananda river's primary canal development project under the Teesta Barrage scheme of Darjeeling and North Dinajpur and Rs 6.48 crore Kartoya Talma Irrigation scheme in Jalpaiguri are to be inaugurated soon.
For the renovation work of Beliaghata canal Kolkata and a soil-erosion prevention and beautification scheme in the coastal area of Digha-Shankarpur. The authorities have pegged Rs 11.33 crore and Rs 86.61 crore respectively.
Among the other important projects are the Rs 1.5 crore beautification project on the Tolly Nallah canal side adjacent Kalighat temple area in Kolkata, Rs 7.58 crore development of lower Bagjola canal in Haroa's Kulti area in North 24 Parganas, Rs 31.11 crore Icchamati river renovation project from Kalanchi to Tipi in Swarupnagar and Gaighata area in North 24 Parganas and Rs 11.68 crore Baigachi canal renovation project in Howrah and Hooghly districts.
The department has finalised the DPR of all the 136 projects in the last two months and the schemes were placed before the finance department for approval.
