Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has completed 27 per cent work on the
Phase I of the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) known as 'blue corridor'. The
cost of Phase I is estimated to be around Rs 110 crore.
The whole project has been divided into three parts called blue, red and
green corridors. The blue corridor surrounding Rajkot in Gujarat spans around 29
km.
At present, work is on, at the 150 ft ring road which connects Gondal road
and Jamnagar road national highway. Three flyovers are being constructed on this
10.70 km stretch wherein 18 per cent work has been completed, according to
sources. RMC expects to complete the Phase I by August 2010.
The BRTS project in Rajkot covers an area of 67 km. The other phases are to
cover 9.16 km from Jamnagar road to Greenland cross road and 9.14 km road from
Greenland cross road to Gondal road highway.
Work on the red and green corridors will begin after 2010 and these two
projects are likely to be completed by 2012.
