The Central
Electricity Authority (CEA) has returned 8 power project proposals to their
respective promoters for non tie-up of essential inputs/ clearances. However,
the CEA has made it clear that these projects could be considered for techno-economic
clearance (TEC) after tying up for essential inputs/ clearances.
The 8 gas-based
power projects, with a total capacity of 2,576.7 MW, were submitted for CEA
clearance during April 1999 and September 2001. The reasons for rejecting the project
proposals are listed below:

In case of the
Konaseema power project, CEA has asked the Andhra Pradesh government to go for
fresh competitive bidding for the project and also returned the project report
to the independent power producer.
The CEA is now
in the process of scrutinising proposals for 343.48 MW Rajgarh CCPP of Alpine Power
System in Chhattisgarh and the 94 MW Velthur CCGT project of Tamil Nadu
Electricity Board.
