A state-of-the-art 750-bed multispecialty paediatric hospital will be constructed on six acres at the King Institute of Preventive Medicine and Research campus in Guindy, Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma. Subramanian announced on 22 June, 2025. The hospital, attached to a postgraduate and super-specialty paediatric institute, will function as a constituent medical college of Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University.
With an allocation of Rs 487.66 crore, this is the state’s largest investment in a hospital project to date. The seven-storey facility (including the ground floor), spanning 3.15 lakh sq. ft., will include hostels for doctors, nurses, students, and professors, alongside advanced medical infrastructure. “We got the nod from the Chief Minister last week. Tenders will be floated soon and construction is expected to begin in September,” the Minister said after inspecting the site with health officials including Health Secretary P Senthilkumar. The hospital will offer 100 ICU beds, pay wards, shared wards, and suites.
University Vice-Chancellor Dr K Narayanasamy confirmed the facility will house 20 departments, 14 of which are unique, including organ transplant, hemato-oncology, neurology, nephrology, pulmonology, and plastic surgery. The hospital will be fully funded and managed by the university.
