Air India will soon start operations of maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) units in Hyderabad and Nagpur.
The Hyderabad facility, located near Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, will provide MRO facilities for two narrow bodied (two airbus aircrafts) and one wide bodied aircraft. The inauguration of the Hyderabad MRO is likely to take place next month.
The Nagpur MRO too is ready and will be inaugurated just a few days after or before the Hyderabad facility is done. The Nagpur MRO facility is a joint venture in the Nagpur aviation hub for the Airbus and Boeing fleet.
Both Hyderabad and Nagpur facilities are run by Air India Engineering Services (AIES) and will cater to Air India fleet.
AIES also has a DGCA-approved facility in Mumbai, but this can only handle the landing gears of some of its Boeing fleet.
Out of the 108 aircraft with Air India, 38 are from Boeing and 62 from Airbus, and the rest are from regional jets.
