Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma laid the foundation stone for a vital RCC bridge over the River Barak at Madhuraghat, Silchar, on 07 December, 2025.
The bridge, part of the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) for 2025–26, is expected to connect Madhuramukh with Silchar city near the Gandhighat rice mill. The project, valued at over Rs 79 crore, will span 340 mtrs., including approach roads and safety components. Once completed, the bridge will reduce the distance between Itkhola and Dudhpatil by about eight km, easing transit for people and goods, and leading to savings in time and fuel.
"The bridge will be completed within two years, fulfilling a long-standing demand for better connectivity," CM Sarma assured. He also highlighted the significant infrastructure development in the region over the past five years, including several major bridges and the upcoming elevated corridor project for Silchar city. The CM reiterated the government's commitment to furthering Barak Valley's development.
