The Assam Gas Cracker project is expected to go on-stream in June 2015.
The project at Lepetkata, Dibrugarh (Assam) is undertaken by Brahmaputra Crackers and Polymers (BPCL). Its mechanical work is projected to be completed by November 2014 and commissioned by June 2015.
At present, it has achieved an overall completion of 97.8 per cent.
The principal end products of the project, which will use natural gas and naphtha as feedstock, will be high density polyethylene (HDPE) and linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE), totalling 2,20,000 tonne per annum and 60,000 tonne per annum of polypropylene (PP). The other products include raw pyrolysis gasoline and fuel oil.
In April 2006, this project received approval from the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA). To implement the entire project, Brahmaputra Crackers and Polymers, was incorporated in January 2007, as a joint venture company.
