BHEL and NTPC are working in partnership to set up a power plant at Dadri in Uttar Pradesh.
Both the companies are holding discussions on parameters and the plant design for 100 MW power plant based on integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) technology. The plant is expected to cost Rs 700 crore. Of the total investment BHEL and NTPC while share as a 50:50 JV.
With IGCC technology, coal is converted into gas, which in turn is used to run the turbine after removing impurities. It is less polluting and also more efficient in power generation.
Meanwhile, BHEL and NTPC has entered into an agreement with Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) to design, develop and build 800MW advanced ultra super-critical boilers for coal-fired power plants. The boilers will be able to operate at a pressure of 350 bar and at temperatures of 700 degrees Celsius. Once the design has been approved, material procurement and other aspects will kick in. The proposed plant is expected to come up either in Uttar Pradesh or Haryana.
