BHEL has commissioned Unit-I of the 600 MW coal-based power project located at Dereng, in Angul district of Orissa.
Commissioning of Unit-I is part of the Rs 2,600 crore contract awarded to BHEL by Jindal India Thermal Power. The proponent had awarded the order to BHEL for work related to commissioning of Unit-I and II of the 600 MW coal-based power project.
Work on Unit-II, having a capacity of 600 MW, is in full swing and is expected to be commissioned by FY15.
BHEL's scope of work in the contract includes design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning of steam turbines, generators and boilers, along with associated auxiliaries.
The coal-based power project, being set up by Jindal India Thermal, involves setting up of a 3 x 600 MW unit at Angul, which is spread across 1,700 acre.
