The last date for submission of RfPs for Orissa and Tamil Nadu Ultra Mega Power Projects (UMPPs) has now been extended, as interested firms have sought more time to evaluate the tender norms.
The last date for submission of RfPs for Cheyyur UMPP, Tamil Nadu, has been moved to 23 April 2014, and for Sundergarh UMPP, Orissa, to 7 May, 2014. Earlier, the RfPs' submission date for both the UMPPs was 26 February, 2014. The bidding process for both the projects is being undertaken by Power Finance Corporation (PFC).
All nine applicants for the Orissa UMPP and eight applicants for the Tamil Nadu UMPP, who have applied for RfQs, have been shortlisted for issuance of RfPs or the final price bids. In February 2014, the bidders asked for more time to examine several parameters before placing their bids.
The project in Orissa, with 4,000 MW capacity, is a pit-head power project and is expected to cost around Rs 25,000 crore. On the other hand, the Cheyyur UMPP, with the same capacity, is a coastal power project, and will require an investment of about Rs 24,200 crore.
