The Centre has proposed to establish a 4,000 MW mega power project in Telangana, the newly formed state of India, which was earlier a part of Andhra Pradesh.
The power plant will be set up by NTPC and work on developing the plant will proceed further once the company receives coal linkages for the project.
The Centre has planned to set up the power plant in Telangana, as the newly formed state is likely to face power shortage of about 2,000 MW.
The coal requirement for the project is expected to be met by the Singareni Collieries and other sources.
Besides, NTPC has set up a super thermal power plant in Ramagundam in Karimnagar district of Andhra Pradesh. The company is exploring the likelihood of expansion at the Ramagundam site. It is also making efforts to fulfil the requirements of power through Central power stations and purchase of power assets.
