The Coimbatore Corporation is set to begin the commercial operations of its 24×7 water supply project by February 2026.
While the main feeder pipeline has already been laid, the distribution pipeline for a 30 km stretch is still pending. According to Corporation Commissioner M Sivaguru Prabakaran, the project will be ready once 1,35,000 house service connections are provided, with a target of 1,50,000 connections. Approx. one lakh connections have already been installed. All 32 overhead tanks, except the one at Nanjundapuram, are filled for trial runs. Despite the delay in laying pipelines in certain areas like Townhall and Gandhi Maa Nagar, the Corporation aims to complete the remaining work before the elections.
The project, which began in 2019, was delayed due to the pandemic and labor shortages. Now, with an investment of Rs 646.71 crore, it is expected to be fully operational by the end of February, providing uninterrupted drinking water to the city’s 60 wards.
