Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has awarded Alstom two contracts worth Rs 465 crore for supplying, telecom and electrification solutions for the new Kochi metro line.
Alstom’s scope of work is designing, manufacturing, supplying, installing, testing and commissioning.
The projects will be executed in the early 2016 and the commercial service for the first section will begin in March that year.
Around 25 Alstom Metropolis trains will circulate on the Kochi metro line. The metro line with 22 stations is 25 km long.
Besides, the company will also work on manufacturing, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of rail traction electrification and auxiliary substations and associated SCADA systems.
The engineering for the project will be led by Alstom's site in Bangalore in India and equipment for the projects will come from Villeurbanne (France) and Bologna (Italy) sites.
Alstom’s has build a new facility recently at SriCity near Chennai to build metro train sets. The company also has a traction systems manufacturing unit in Coimbatore and an engineering unit specialised in signalling solutions in Bengaluru.
