First Solar, Inc., Kiran Energy Solar Power and Mahindra Solar One have completed an agreement for the supply of First Solar's advanced, thin-film solar modules for two solar photovoltaic (PV) power plants totaling 50 MW to be constructed in Rajasthan.

Kiran Energy secured a 20 MW project in the second round of bidding under the National Solar Mission. Mahindra Solar One received two projects, of 20 MWp and 10 MWp, in the same round. These projects are coming up in Rajasthan. Both the companies quoted a tariff of Rs 9.34 a unit. The company will supply more than 5,85,000 of its advanced, thin-film solar modules for the two projects of 30 MW and 20 MW. Construction on both projects is expected to begin during 2012 and be completed in the first quarter of 2013. These projects are expected to generate an average of more than 85,000 MW-hours of clean electricity per annum, equivalent to the annual electricity needs of more than 97,000 average Indian households, and displace more than 80,000 tonne of CO2 per annum based on the national averages.

The two adjacent projects are part of the second batch of utility-scale solar projects concluded under India's Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM). The JNNSM aims to install 20,000 MW of new solar electricity generating capacity by 2022.
