The Power Company of Karnataka (PCKL), a wholly owned company of the Karnataka government, is planning to invite RfQs soon for its coal-based power project at Ferozabad, in Gulbarga district of Karnataka.
The project, with 2 x 660 MW capacity, has been proposed under the Case-2 bidding framework as per the competitive bidding guidelines.
PCKL is an SPV formed by the state government to bridge the widening gap between demand and supply by capacity addition through a competitive bidding route. The Gulbarga thermal power project is the first project being taken up by the PCKL under the competitive bid route.
The company had invited RfQs on BOO basis twice: in July 2010 and May 2012. As the earlier qualifiers did not submit financial bids due to lack of coal linkages, fresh RfQs will soon be invited. The ministry of Coal has recently allotted a coal block for the project.
The power project, estimated to cost Rs 7,500 crore, will be constructed over a period of four years from the date of signing the agreement. The entire power generated will be supplied to the state grid.
