Construction of the Gurugram Metro Phase-I is set to commence from mid-September after the contractor deployed a piling rig, a key machine for digging foundation pillars, in front of the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) office in Sector-44 near the Delhi Metro’s Yellow Line terminus.
Officials said, “The piling rig will start operation once the Bhoomi poojan of the project is carried out by the Haryana government. We expect the work to start in the next 15 to 20 days.” The machine, transported from Surat over seven days, can dig up to 180 mtrs. deep and complete concreting of a pillar foundation within 12 hours. Gurugram Metro Rail (GMRL) will finalise design specifications before piling work begins.
A senior government official confirmed that Bhoomi poojan will take place this month, to be attended by Haryana CM Nayab Singh and Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, with a large public rally planned at Sector 29 or Tau Devi Lal stadium. GMRL awarded the Rs 1,277 crore-plus GST first-phase contract last month to Dilip Buildcon–Ranjit Buildcon JV.
