Bengaluru’s Hebbal flyover is set to get an additional traffic loop by end-December to ease congestion.
This new loop will handle traffic from Yelahanka, Jakkur, and Sahakarnagar, ensuring better segregation of traffic. Once operational, the loop will allow smooth, uninterrupted flow by separating traffic from the airport expressway, local areas, and Outer Ring Road (ORR). Currently, the traffic police alternate between local and airport expressway traffic to manage congestion, but this system will be replaced by a non-stop flow once the loop is completed. While the new loop will improve traffic management, it will narrow to six mtrs. as it joins the flyover, potentially creating a bottleneck over the last 100 mtrs.
Despite this, officials believe the streamlined traffic flow will minimise delays. However, the pile-up on the flyover has shifted to Mehkri Circle, with traffic tailing up to Baptist Hospital. To mitigate this, the BDA is working on widening the service road at Mehkri Circle to allow a free left turn to Jayamahal Road.
