Industrial Promotion & Investment Corporation of Odisha (IPICOL) has sought administrative approval from the Department of Energy, Orissa, to allot land to NTPC, for its coal-based power plant at Gajamara, in Dhenkanal district of Orissa.
The power plant, with 1,600 MW capacity, requires 1,013 acre. NTPC had sought a total of 717.087 acre. Of the total area, the company requires 402.577 acre for ash dyke; 101.6 acre for reservoir area; 32.57 acre for ash pipeline corridor; 144.53 acre for rail corridor; and three acre to develop a water pump house.
However, IPICOL has revised the land requirement at 676.73 acre. The assessment by IPICOL is on the basis of the prevailing guidelines of the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), and documents submitted by NTPC. The revised land requirement includes government, private, and forest land for ash dyke, reservoir, ash pipeline corridor, and railway corridor.
Notification under Section 4 (1) of the Land Acquisition Act has already been issued for acquisition of private land for the power plant. NTPC has urged the state government to expedite the issue of 6 (1) notification.
