JSW Steel is likely to commission an auto-grade steel plant at Toranagallu in Bellary district of Karnataka by December 2013.
The value-added product manufacturing plant will cater to the requirement of the Indian automotive industry. The company is investing $1 billion (approx Rs 6,009 crore) for the 2.3 million tpa unit in Bellary. Once the project gets commissioned, it will substitute the auto-grade steel imports.
Meanwhile, the company is planning to go slow on its West Bengal project where it intends to set up a 10 million tpa steel plant due to supply of raw material. The company will take the project forward once the iron ore supply issue is resolved.
