Jaiprakash Power Ventures (JPVL) has announced plans to establish a 50 MW solar power project in Madhya Pradesh with an estimated investment of Rs 300 crore.
The company’s board considered the proposal during a recent meeting, subject to necessary approvals, including those from lenders. According to the regulatory filing, the proposed solar project will be set up at the company’s existing site in Bina, Madhya Pradesh, where it operates the 500 MW Jaypee Bina Thermal Power Plant (JBTTP). By leveraging available infrastructure at the thermal plant, the company aims to diversify into renewable energy while optimising resources at the site.
The project represents a strategic shift in JPVL’s energy portfolio towards cleaner power generation in line with India’s renewable energy targets. The company highlighted that the initiative is part of its broader efforts to expand into sustainable energy while maintaining operational synergies with its thermal assets. Once completed, the project will contribute to green power availability in Madhya Pradesh, boosting regional renewable capacity.
