The Karnataka Cabinet has granted in-principle approval for a Rs 2,350-crore international standard cricket stadium in Suryanagar, Anekal, in Bengaluru's outskirts.
Spread over 75 acres of Karnataka Housing Board land, the stadium is planned to seat 80,000 spectators— significantly larger than the existing M Chinnaswamy Stadium’s 32,000 capacity. Beyond cricket, the venue will host non-sporting events such as conclaves, concerts, and public gatherings.
The government highlighted the need for a modern facility to match contemporary standards. However, a detailed project report (DPR) is awaited for a final decision on costs and project scope.
