The Himachal Pradesh government has secured Stage-I environmental clearance for a Rs 1,734.70-crore ropeway and rapid transport project in Shimla.
Announced by Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri on 15 October, the project spans 13.79 km and aims to ease traffic congestion, cut carbon emissions, and offer a clean, efficient travel alternative for residents and tourists. The approval, granted under the Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980, allows the use of 6.1909 hectares of forest land, with full compliance to environmental and legal standards.
The Deputy CM also thanked the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change for the approval and assured that all construction would adhere to forest department guidelines. Once completed, the project is expected to redefine commuting in Shimla and support sustainable urban development.
