The Karnataka government has invited an Expression of Interest (EOI) from global consultants for a drinking water project at Mekedatu, in Kanakapura taluk of Ramanagaram district, Karnataka.
On Tuesday, the Minister of Water Resources had asked the government to go ahead with its proposal to set up balancing reservoirs in Mekedatu.
The last day for interested technical consultancy firms to enrol is 30 November, 2014. For this project, it is easy to get forest and environment clearances as it comes under the drinking water scheme. Once the project gets completed, it will be bigger than the Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS). It is likely to store more than 45 TMC of water.
The state government will ensure adequate flow of water to Tamil Nadu while taking up the project.
