The Karnataka government has released Rs 250 crore for railway projects. It is the government’s share of contribution towards the projects to be implemented in the state under share-costs basis with the Indian Railways.
The state government had to release a total of Rs 540 crore for the joint railway projects during the current fiscal year. The remaining amount will be released soon.
The Karnataka government has proposed to undertake 11 projects with the Railway Department under the expenditure sharing system. From the total 11 projects, the state government will bear the land acquisition cost of six projects.
To establish a Railway Divisional office at Kalaburagi, 43 acre of land required has been handed over to the Railway Department and Rs 290 crore out of Rs 422.08 crore has been released for the ongoing work of laying track between Bidar and Kalaburagi.
The engine rolling work of 64 out of a total 110 km line has been completed and the entire project will be completed in 2016-17.
